I keep watching people "discover" something on LinkedIn, cross-check it on Reddit, and then think it's something reliable and/or actionable. Hot take: Stop.
LinkedIn is not a reliable source for information outside of regurgitating what corporate CEOs are saying. LinkedIn should only be used for getting the quick, strategic-level updates of major actions in your (the) industry. Then go and do your own research or--better yet!--talk to your people about what you've read. Stop reading the AI-generated garbage or just looking at the URL to get the gist of an article and READ and LEARN.
I use the phrase "LinkedIn Scientist" in a disparaging way, and I don't think a lot of people pick that up. It's not a badge of honor...it's a slam because you think you see something on LinkedIn (and probably go and 'cross-check it on Reddit' **sigh** and then bring it forward to Be A Thing for People to Care About.
Stop doing that. LinkedIn is the siren, not the report. No one can hear what the message is on those shitty tornado sirens, but they know that if it goes off, something is happening. That's it. That's all it's for. Take it as a call-to-action, and then you have to use your human brain and sort through if it's AI slop, or just a sloppy regurgitation of what bullshit CEOs who only care about money have said.
If LinkedIn is necessary evil for you, like it is for me: I found this while reading the blogs and am keeping an eye on it: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/linkedin-feed-blocker/likdkcmiigfdfpkkecbcephijdfbegcf
It's first release just blocks EVERYTHING in that middle column of the LI page...even the posts you might actually click on to read. That's not ideal. But, I'm hoping the dev gets some features added soon so you can customize your LI feed (filter out the content up above I talked about).
Set a watch on his repo if you're interested in this, too: https://github.com/andrewpollack/linkedin-feed-blocker
Until then: hear the siren and don't mistake it for the news report.
