It’s just my typical luck
NewsThings have a way of really balancing out in my life. Something good happens, something bad happens. So I can be assured that if I get lucky–say, get to go to Hawaii for work–that something bad is going to happen. Sure enough, it did. Before I left town, I told a few friends who skied that they were going to get walloped by snow.
Well, they sure fucking did.
Good thing: Richard gets to go to Hawaii! Bad thing: Richard gets to miss out on the first (and maybe only) Minnesota powder day. My luck is completely circular.
I guess I can get over it some time, but not right now. Granted, being in Hawaii trumps shoveling and freezing my ass off, but the lack of friends or family here is kind of a bummer. I mean, you can only do so much by yourself. How fun is it to go body boarding by yourself? Not that much. How about windsurfing? Not that much fun by yourself, either, and not very safe as well.
Otherwise everything is going great. I’m rental car-less, but that’s OK because I’m right in downtown Honolulu and can pretty much walk anywhere or get public transportation. I’m surrounded by terrific restaurants (one in particular is a delicious Japanese noodle house) I’m looking directly at the beach. Work is busy, so the time there clicks off fast. Additionally, I get to see firsthand what my involvement is accomplishing–instead of that “spinning your wheels” feeling I normally have back home. Morale is definately high, even despite missing heading up to Lutsen for a free weekend of knee-deep snow and debauchery.

Off to work on my tan. In my speak that means “getting burned.” ‘Cause, yah know, that’s just my luck, right?
